Typology
computer is how the technology-rich environment could transform educational
practices in general and learning processes in particularly, uncovering the
activities and online facilities they had and the way they appropriated them
for their learning . The revolution associated with virtual environments has
changed people’s view of work settings, leisure time at home, and it has
ultimately changed the view of educational environments. The environment from
this view, should provide learners a venue for activities comprising
communication and access to information resources.
For
example : The traditional classroom has, so far, been a critical factor in the
provision of such learning environments. It provides a place where people can
interact, experiment, collaborate, share, dan create. At the same time, the
teacher provided their expertise to explain, elaborate, observe, guide and give
feedback. But now new environment emerges . a classroom is no longer the sole
venue for learning. Learner’s play with computers and the internet is one kind
of participation in another kind of environment, apart from the traditional
environments; they interact with peers, other people, and resources through the
internet mediation. In this study the term technology is limited to
computer-based technology used to handle information and aid communication.
There
are three main ways to classify computer usages in learning : the computer as a tutor or teaching machine,
the computer as the tutee, and computer supported collaborative learning (CSCL)
(Koschmann, 1996). These classificatiospond to a prominent phisolophy during a
particular time .
1.The
computer as tutor : is a form of
computer software that reproduces a traditional model of teaching and learning.
This technology is designed in order to provide appropriate feedback on
students problem solving and reasoning. In the computer tutor mode, the
computer does not allow the learner to build their creativity and so is
unlikely to support the development of higher order thinking. Here, knowledge
as being the product of an active process of construction rather than a passive
assimilation of information .
2.The
computer as tutee : by using this this format, technology should be used as
alearning tool that amplifies learners capabilities to construct their
understanding of world around them. In this way “student will learn with the technology, not from it “ (jonassen et al., 1999, p.
152, emphasis is in original). By using computer in this sense can provide a
rich and positive learning environment in which the students can engage in an
active coignition processing necessary to develop particular learning skills. In
other word, the ways in which a student teach the computer would entail
especially potent learning experience.
3.
Computer supported collaborative learning (CSCL) focus on the behavior or
emphasis learning as individual student as the unit of analysis. A classroom is
a dynamic place where students comment to one another, share resources, exchange
views, and ask answer wuestion; there are agreement an disagreements,
conflicts, or misunderstanding, confusions, and insights. They can facilitate
the communication within and across classroom both in synchronous and
asynchronous modes;provide virtual classroom venues, and allow for access to
archival strorage information for supporting building knowledge .
